Network Associates signs up with Open Mobile Alliance to develop mobile security solutions

In order to meet a growing need for mobile security solutions, Network Associates has joined the Open Mobile Alliance to work towards open standards of mobile security

Network Associates is looking to improve its expertise in the mobile arena, through joining the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). The OMA is a global organisation that develops open standards for mobile communications, and Network Associates intends to leverage OMA knowledge to help it to develop mobile security solutions.

The company is the first security software vendor to join the OMA, in response to growing concerns over the security of wireless networks and mobile devices.

“Network Associates’ membership in the Open Mobile Alliance is another important step for Network Associates towards its goal to protect the mobile industry from increasing threats,” said Patrick Hayati, regional director of Network Associates in the Middle East.

“This development carries a major significance to the Middle East, because of relatively poor awareness about viruses and a general lack of preventive measures. Network Associates is now poised to bring global industry-leading solutions to its clients in the region by being a party to the agreed-upon standards to further ensure that unified service platforms are implemented across the mobile industry on a global scale,” he added.

The popularity of mobile devices in the region means that it will be especially important to develop mobile security solutions with other OMA members said Hayati.

“As a region that is recording exponential growth in mobile devices and wireless networks, the Middle East will become increasingly dependent on leading virus protection systems if it wants to avoid sudden losses caused by viruses. We already know that the mobile device penetration has outpaced landlines in this region. Networks Associates is ready with leading edge solutions to assist users of mobile devices,” he said.
