The Kempinski Julai’a Hotel & Resort has upgraded its network infrastructure in an attempt to make the internet passive throughout its hotel, beach and spa. The Gigabit Ethernet networking kit has all been provided by Cisco Systems, and will be used to support a number of web-based applications.

The network, which has been deployed by Kuwait Danish Computer Company (KDCC), will enable guests to access the web using four methods of connectivity. Hotels clients will either be able to log on through a wireless local area network (WLAN) covering the beaches, restaurants, spas and 133 chalets and rooms, a dial-up or Ethernet network connection and interactive television.

“Our strategy is to continuously innovate to exceed our customer’s expectations,” says Michael Henssler, general manager of the Kempinski Julai’a Hotel and Resort.

“Cisco’s solution provides us with the technical reliability and scalability that we need to propel our service offering to ever higher levels. On top of this, KDCC has developed an infrastructure, which precisely meets the needs of a high quality hotel & resort,” he adds.

According to Raed Omari, operations manager at KDCC, the Kempinski Julai’a Hotel & Resort is a case study example of how local hotels should embrace information technology to improve services. “The hospitality industry provides great scope for the development of new services based on an IP infrastructure,” he adds.

As part of the solution KDCC deployed Cisco Catalyst switches, Aironet WLAN access points and PIX firewalls. Over 20 engineers were involved in the deployment over the course of three months.
