CBS partners with Tekla to build grandstand canopy
Tekla’s X-Steel package will be used to design and build the 500 tone steel, grandstand canopy structure for the Al Jazeera Club.
Consolidated Building Systems (CBS) has partnered with 3-D modelling software vendor, Tekla, to deliver the grandstand canopy of the Al Jazeera Club in Abu Dhabi. Tekla’s X-Steel package will be used to design and build the 500 tone steel canopy structure.
“The 3-D perspective provided by Tekla’s solution was vital in visualizing and ensuring the safety and durability of the Al Jazeera Club’s grandstand. We were able to generate a complete picture of the finished product before even the construction started, which kept us within time targets,” comments Hossam Gharib, general manager, Consolidated Building Systems.
X-Steel will also enable CBS to improve cost management and develop accurate construction schedules. Networked and internet-enabled solutions, like X-Steel, allow engineers to work separately but concurrently on different aspects of a building, and then aggregate the 3-D drawings from anywhere in the world via the web.
The software will also enable CBS to develop a complete materials list for the structure. The list will then help the company to maintain a strong management control over the construction material.
“Our aim is to build innovative structures. To do this we require zero error detailing by working with the best technology available,” said Mr Rajesh Agrawal, engineering manager, CBS.
Work on the grandstand project is underway, and the canopy is due for completion in July 2003.
