MBC invests in ‘studio in a bag’

Dubai Media City-based broadcaster MBC has purchased five ‘studio in a bag’ systems from Sony for use around the region.

MBC has announced the purchase of five Sony ‘studio in a bag’ systems for use around the region. “We shall be using the ‘studio in a bags’ for quick missions,” says Ihab El Baba, technical manager, MBC. “If we have a late story breaking and we need to get pictures from an area quickly we can use these systems.”

The studio in a bag comprises of a Sony PD 150 camera and a 15-inch Sony Vaio laptop optimised for video output and equipped with the latest Editmaster software.

El Baba says the decision to invest was prompted by the possibility of conflict in Iraq. “The main advantage for MBC is that if we do not have satellite access then we can send stories through IDSN, through a network or over the network using this system,” he says “We can send stories over Immarsat or Thuraya, thus ensuring a story gets through.”
