Samsung hosts online competition with EIM

Samsung and Emirates Internet and Multimedia have teamed up to host the Samsung Cyber Challenge Dubai 2003. A prize money of $6795 will be awarded to the winning team.

Samsung Gulf Electronics and Emirates Internet and Multimedia (EIM) have teamed up to host an online gaming compeition for players in the Middle East. The Samsung Cyber Challenge Dubai 2003 will be played on EIM’s gaming web site www.mplayer-arabia.com from January 26 to February 7, and a prize money of $6795 will be awarded to the winning team.

A maximum of 64 teams will be selected from the region to participate in the competition. Interested players can register online at Mplayer-Arabia. To qualify, particpants must be above 15 years and finalists must be able to come to Dubai for the last round, which will be held at Deira City Centre.

“E-sports is already gaining interest in most parts of the world, and through this competition our endeavour is to transform the local cyber gaming industry into a formal e-sporting adventure,” commented K S Vasudevan, senior manager, Digital Information Technology, Samsung. He also added that the Samsung Cyber Challenge Dubai 2003 would be a regular annual event alongside the Dubai Shopping Festival.

Samsung has worked with several gaming cafes in the region to implement high-end hardware solutions. Through Mplayer-Arabia.com, which has over 70,000 subscribers, the company hopes to encourage gaming.Likewise, EIM is looking to generate more revenue out of its gaming site and promote internet usage as well.

We are pleased to have this opportunity to bring our online gamers a challenging and potentially rewarding competition to run along side the Dubai shopping festival,“ stated Abdulla Hashim, senior manager, business development and sales, EIM. He added that EIM would be happy to consider similar partnership agreements with organisations to promote internet usage in the country.
