Meta Group promotes 'best practice' IT investment

Meta Group encourage full portfolio management approach to IT investment at Metamorphosis Plus 2003 conference.

Analyst body, Meta Group, is advising local companies to adopt a portfolio management approach to IT investment at its Metamorphosis Plus 2003 conference to be held in Dubai.

The conference, to be held on the 14th and 15th April at Emirates Towers, will educate delegates on IT investment best practices.

“Many companies successfully executed on last year’s Metamorphosis theme by leveraging IT portfolio management to strategically prioritize projects and reduce costs through asset management,” says Fred Amoroso, Meta Group CEO.

“This year, we will examine the full spectrum of integration challenges — business processes, information, applications, infrastructure, people, and culture — and address how companies need to integrate all aspects of their portfolio to drive both business and IT performance,” he adds.

Meta Group is predicting IT investment in Europe and the US will remain flat for much of 2003. However, Metamorphosis Dubai will present local organisations with an opportunity to “jump the curve” and learn IT investment best practices, says Amoroso.

According to a spot poll on ITP.net, IT spending in the Middle East remains buoyant, with 40% of respondents claiming they plan to increase IT investment in the next 12 months. A further 38% of respondents indicated that they would maintain the same level of IT investment over the next year.
