ARN launches world’s first Khaleejy station

‘Al Khaleejiya’ will broadcast live out of the Arabian Radio Network’s Dubai Media City headquarters.

The Arabian Radio Network has announced the launch of ‘Al Khaleejiya 100.9 FM’, the world’s first Khaleejy broadcasting service. The new station will begin limited broadcasting tomorrow (15 January) to coincide with the start of DSF 2003 with full programming following on 14 February.

“We hope that with the beginning of this New Year we can bring more happiness through our new service,” says Abdul Latif Al Sayegh, managing director, Arabian Radio Network. “I would like to thank all parties that have supported us so far in putting on air our first three services ‘Free967’, ‘City1016’ and ‘Al Arabiya 98.9’. Thanks to them and their huge efforts ARN will be able to continue its indefinite expansion plan. Time has come to categorise Arabic music and to give people more variety and a better choice.”

“Following the ‘Al Arabiya 98.9 FM’ example the ‘Al Khaleejiya 100.9 FM’ broadcasting team aims to represent most GCC countries,” adds Zeina El_Haj, public relations manager, ARN. “The concept of a multicultural team has proved itself very successful with other radio stations within the Arabian Radio Network and stems from ARN’s strong belief in giving people from various countries and different walks of life their very own representation.

“Al Khaleejiya will be the largest regional platform not only for Khaleejy artists and all other performers of Khaleejy music but also to all sorts of Gulf cultural heritage, be it poetry, Shallat or Jalsat (specialised Gulf musical types),” concludes El_Haj.

As well as broadcasting on FM, ‘Al Khaleejiya’ will be streamed on ARN’s web site, www.arnonline.com.
