BDF outlines plan to rollout Oracle Collaboration Suite

Bahrain Defence Force Hospital (BDF), the island’s second largest medical facility, is planning to embrace Oracle Collaboration Suite in an effort to improve its service levels.

The hospital, which provides primary, secondary and tertiary health care for entitled patients in peacetime, will use the Oracle Collaboration Suite as its key communication and knowledge sharing tool.

As part of the implementation, BDF will migrate away from its existing Microsoft Exchange messaging system. The deployment of Oracle’s Collaboration Suite will enable the hospital to consolidate its messaging platform around a single server, resulting in reduced operating costs and improved management.

“To achieve BDF’s objective of realising cost benefits and efficiencies from an integrated IT infrastructure platform, our migration to the Oracle Collaboration Suite was the most logical move,” comments Dr. Mukhtar Al-Hashimi, head of BDF hospital’s computer department.

“Security was also a paramount consideration. As a military institution, we have to be able to trust the integrity of BDF hospital’s infrastructure, and we felt that Oracle would be more than capable of delivering that peace-of-mind,” he adds.

Oracle Collaboration Suite manages a company’s messaging and collaboration needs, delivering voice, wireless, web and desktop access to all communications including e-mail, voicemail, fax, files and calendar on an enterprise-class, scalable, reliable and secure infrastructure.

“Oracle understands that one of the key challenges for organisations is providing the information that professionals need in the time they need it,” explains Husam Dajani, vice president for Oracle Middle East.

“Oracle Collaboration Suite provides BDF hospital with the right infrastructure to achieve this, while reducing the number of e-mail and file servers that the hospital needs to operate. It’s a solution that provides both cost efficiencies and enhanced productivity.”
