JTC partners with Alcatel to deliver broadband access

The current stage of the project JTC will connect 65 geographically dispersed schools with a network based on Alcatel networking kit.

Jordan Telecom (JTC) is upgrading its network infrastructure as it strives to provide Kingdom’s 3000 public schools with broadband internet access.

In the current stage of the project, JTC will connect 65 geographically dispersed educational sites with a network based on Alcatel’s 7300 Advanced Services Access Manager (ASAM) and the 7470 Multiservice Platform (MSP).

“Connectivity to the internet will offer the Jordanian students a window to the world as well as give them better insight into many aspects of their own country,” comments Pierre Mattei, CEO for Jordan Telecom.

“Alcatel has proven they can deliver reliable products on time with great technical support. We are confident in our selection of Alcatel to provide a world-class broadband solution that will impact the education and lives of Jordan's children, and ultimately all of its citizens, in such a profound manner,” he adds.

To date, Alcatel has secured 100% of the ADSL market in Jordan. The initial ADSL contract was awarded to Alcatel in July 2000 and since then Alcatel has expanded the network several times.

“Broadband is a very powerful tool that has the potential to help countries expand access to health, learning, entertainment, social and cultural programs,” says Michel Rahier, president of Alcatel's broadband networking activities.

“This tremendous initiative set forth by the Jordanian government will surely enhance the ability of its citizens to compete in the information age. We are pleased that Jordan Telecom has selected Alcatel for such an important undertaking,” he adds.
