Seven Seas breaks into the security services market
Seven Seas taps into the security market through a partnership agreement with security services company, MessageLabs.
Local systems integrator, Seven Seas is tapping into the security market through a partnership agreement with UK-based security services company MessageLabs. Seven Seas will sell and support MessageLabs’ SkyScan range of proactive e-mail security services.
“Security is a burgeoning area for business for us and we are delighted to be selected to be MessageLabs exclusive partner for the UAE,” says Ed Scalpello, sales director, Seven Seas.
“With e-mail borne viruses accounting for up to and beyond 50% of the infection rate on corporate networks, moving the protective layer from the network edge to the internet level is such an obvious advantage,” adds Scalepllo.
Unlike reactive desktop anti-virus software, SkyScan scans e-mail for all viruses and unsuitable content such as pornography and spam at the internet level, before it reaches a business’ users. MessageLabs uses multiple anti-virus engines in tandem to scan an organisation’s e-mail.
The cornerstone of the service is the ‘heuristic’ scanning engine ‘Skeptic’ which uses artificial intelligence to scan e-mail ensuring that it stops not only known viruses, but also potential new ones.
“Traditional reactive desktop software cannot offer nearly the same level of protection as it is unable to prevent new viruses from striking until the signature cure has been identified and downloaded,” explains Scott Dunderdale, regional sales manager, MessageLabs Middle East.
“In 2002 we scanned over 10 million e-mails a day in the UK, and stopped a virus every three seconds, with one in every 212 e-mails containing a virus. This ratio is believed to be similar in the Middle East and we are sure that our offering through Seven Seas will provide the security demanded by Middle Eastern companies,” he adds.
MessageLabs works alongside traditional anti-virus systems to protect from other virus access modes such as internet based and human borne virus threats. However, the use of Skeptic and the off site managed services has meant that MessageLabs is the only company able to offer its customers a 100% guarantee against e-mail based virus infection.
On behalf of its customers, MessageLabs has stopped 18,000 infected e-mails since September 2002 that originated from Middle Eastern countries.
