Marconi offers multicasting functionalities

Marconi’s Access Hub Digital Subscriber Line Add/Drop Multiplexer (DSLAM) is being beefed up with addition of multicasting, Gigabit Ethernet and 3G aggregation capabilities.

Marconi’s Access Hub Digital Subscriber Line Add/Drop Multiplexer (DSLAM) is being beefed up with addition of multicasting, Gigabit Ethernet and 3G aggregation capabilities. The solution will enable service providers to broadcast television services across their networks to DSL subscribers.

“Multicasting lifts a huge strain off the core network. Instead of transmitting millions of video signals, one for each end user, the core need only supply access hubs located in local exchanges. Access hubs would then satisfy each neighbourhood freeing up core capacity to carry more TV channels and revenue generating services,” says Martin Harriman, CEO, Marconi.

“Multicasting over the access hub at last allows telecommunication operators to meet the cable TV challenge, and when combined with Gigabit Ethernet it will be a vital tool in optimising bandwidth in the metro network,” comments Harriman.

Additionally, the DSLAM features Marconi’s ServiceOn Access platform, which facilitates the management of multiple Marconi devices.
