Batelco steps in with sponsorship for local rally star

Bahrain's PTT is going to sponsor homegrown rally star, Yasmin Alhilli, in the Jordan International Rally.

Batelco has stepped in at the last minute to sponsor Bahrain rally driver, Yasmin Alhilli, for the upcoming Jordan International Rally. Alihilli’s plans to compete had been dashed when her Mitsubishi rally car suffered major mechanical failure during preparations.

“We felt it was very important for Yasmin to compete for Bahrain, so Batelco became a sponsor to enable her to race. This talented young sportswoman is good news for Bahrain,” says Batelco’s head of corporate affairs, Harry James.

Yasmin Alhilli is the Gulf’s first competitive female rally driver. The Bahraini sportswoman first got involved with rallying as a marshal at the WRC International Rally in New Zealand in 1998. She was marshal and stage manager at the Bahrain International Rally in 2001 and, soon after, got a job co-driving with another Bahraini rally driver. Yasmin’s initial outing as a driver in her own right, was the Bahrain International Rally earlier this year.

Yasmin has also competed as a drag-racer in Kuwait and behind the wheel of race karts in Bahrain, Dubai and Oman.
