Italian delegation helps Jordanian e-Government project

Jordan’s e-Government plans took a further step forward recently with the visit of an Italian delegation.

Jordan’s e-Government plans took a further step forward recently with the visit of an Italian delegation. The Italians have already begun the implementation of e-Government initiatives and the Jordanian Ministry of ICT (MoICT) is looking to gain from their experience.

The Italian group is from the UNDESA Mission for the e-Government for Development Initiative and follows on from previous discussions aiming to find common ground for the development of e-Government in the two countries.

“These workshops are a result of a series of ongoing meetings between the Jordanian and Italian governments, with the objective of taking the model beyond theory and into implementation,” said Dr Fawaz Zu’bi, Minister of ICT.

“This collaboration helps the Ministry of ICT to gain first-hand experience from the Italian team as they have already undertaken the implementation of their e-Services, and will hopefully achieve the objectives of our programme and those of the initiative of ‘e-Government for Development’,” added Zu’bi.

The collaboration will take the form of workshops during which the Italian delegation will explain the ways in which they have implemented various parts of their e-Government programme, as well as meeting various other interested parties such as the World Bank, the EU and non-governmental organisations.

“The e-Government project is gaining wide support from a number of foreign governments who are contributing to our own effort in creating a more transparent, efficient and service-orientated government,” said Mahmoud Khasawneh, head of e-Government and CIO at MoICT.
