IDC has maintained its lead in the network consulting and integration services market, according to figures from IDC. The research group reports that IBM took 17.7% of the US$ 19.2 billion worldwide market.
IBM was followed by EDS with 7.9% of the market, Compaq with 7.3% market share and Alcatel and Getronics with 6.3% and 5.6% respectively.
IDC advises the vendors to keep on the toes and not become complacent with their current program offerings. According to the research group, customer demands and technologies are constantly changing and vendors need to adapt to these changes.
“Despite the fact that many network consulting companies — particularly those focused on the service provider market — experienced a prolonged slowdown in demand, several types of specialised services should see robust growth during 2002 and 2003,” says Christine Tenneson, senior analyst, Network Support and Integration Services research, IDC.
“To take advantage of the fastest-growing areas, network services firms should investigate developing or expanding their capabilities in security consulting and implementation, wireless consulting and implementation, operations assessments, network optimisation services and convergence services,” adds Tenneson.
