MS announces new Windows CE .Net

Microsoft has announced the release of an updated version of it Windows CE .Net operating system, which was first introduced in January this year.

Microsoft has announced the release of an updated version of it Windows CE .Net operating system, which was first introduced in January this year. The new version includes more support for Microsoft’s .Net services from within Windows CE, the miniature version of Windows used in handheld computers.

While the older version only supported instant messaging and Passport authentication, the new Windows CE .Net 4.1 will also offer support for IPv6, the latest version of the Internet protocol. It also includes built-in support for speech recognition. Devices running the new operating system will also be able to view documents in common formats such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, as well as graphics formats such as GIF, BMP and JPG.

With the new operating system, the IT titan claims that the performance of its Media Player has improved 20 percent and Web browsing will be up to 15 percent faster. Several hardware vendors such as AMD, Samsung Semiconductor and NEC are already said to have promsied support for the new OS.
