Al Ain sets up Web site on waste management

Al Ain Municipality has set up a bi-lingual Web site, www.efrez.com, to promote a waste management programme called "Source Classified Waste Project", designed to systematise waste recycling.

Al Ain Municipality has set up a bi-lingual Web site, www.efrez.com, to promote a waste management programme called "Source Classified Waste Project", designed to systematise waste recycling and promote the place as a tourist destination as well. The project, launched in March this year, will run on an experimental basis for two years in Al Ain's Al Khubaisi district that has more than 2,000 houses.

The Web site includes a biographical sketch of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a brief on the project, the process of waste separation, information about Al Ain, a quiz for the public, and a discussion forum.

In the second phase, Al Ain Municipality hopes to cover the entire city of Al Ain, which has a population of 288,025, with a five per cent annual increase, according to the 1998 census. It has also requested all ministries, educational institutions, public utility societies, clubs, and communities to support the project.
