ISS goes to the top of the class
NSS Group has sent Internet Security Systems’ RealSecure Network Sensor 7.0 software to the top of the class after it scored 100% in its benchmarking tets.
NSS Group has sent Internet Security Systems’ RealSecure Network Sensor 7.0 software to the top of the class. After extensive testing by the Independent network & security testing company, ISS’ intrusion protection application was found to deliver 100% detection rates across the board in all tests.
According to NSS Group director Bob Walder, the latest version of RealSecure is a vast improvement on version 6.5. “The jump from RealSecure 6.5 to release 7.0 has provided huge improvements in the product’s usability, accuracy, signature coverage and performance,” he says.
Of particular note is the application’s new SiteProtector central management console, which provides advanced management and reporting capabilities. It also correlates vulnerability assessment scans and IDS alerts to automatically escalate security incidents where there is a real risk of exposure.
“Since we last examined RealSecure, there have been useful changes to the console, with very good centralised management and alerting capabilities out of the box,” explains Walder.
“Besides its excellent performance, the latest version of RealSecure features improved sensor management and policy deployment, and the move to a three-tiered architecture has made the product much more robust and scalable in larger deployments,” he adds.
Understandably, ISS is delighted with the test results. Jordan Blake, RealSecure Network Sensor product manager at ISS says the improvements that have led to the products 100% pass rate are the result of almost a year’s work integrating the company’s RealSecure and BlackICE technologies.
“The RealSecure development team has always been confident that we had a world-beating combination of features in our new IDS product line. It’s exciting to learn that a highly respected third party organisation like NSS validates this view,” he says.
