Dubai International Airport shows healthy growth in first six months of 2002
Passenger movement at Dubai International Airport in the first half of 2002 registered at 7.5 million, 10% increase over the same period last year, while Dubai Cargo Village registered a phenomenal 20% growth.
Passenger movement at Dubai International Airport in the first half of 2002 registered at 7.5 million showing a growth of 10% over the same period last year, while Dubai Cargo Village registered a phenomenal 20% growth, according to a statement from the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).
The total number of passengers registered at 7.5 million in the first half of 2002 as compared 6.8 million last year. Dubai Duty Free sales for the first six months reached a record Dhs511.6 million (US$140 million) which puts the operation very much on target to reach the milestone of Dhs1 billion by the end of the year
“The first half of 2002 has been very promising for the Department of Civil Aviation. Passenger and cargo movement and Dubai Duty Free sales have all shown a healthy growth,” said HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Department of Civil Aviation and chairman of Emirates Group. “We are on track to achieving our projections for the year – 15 million passengers and Dubai Duty Free sales record of 1 billion Dirhams.”
The months of May and June witnessed the highest movement of passengers with a growth of 15.5% and 14% respectively. Similarly the most successful months for Dubai Cargo Village have been May and June with 22.5% and 22.4% growth respectively.
First half sales at Dubai Duty Free edged past the half billion Dirham mark representing a 10% increase over the same period last year and placing the award-winning operation firmly on track for the Dhs1 billion (US$277 million) target set for 2002
Executively Flight Services has also shown a healthy growth of 17% with 1300 movements in the first six months of 2002 as compared to 1112 last year during the same period. Dubai International Hotel has also reported a 107% occupancy rate in the first half of 2002.
