New Nokia offers Java-powered games

Nokia's new breed of phones will pitch with Java technology on board, optimized for mobile devices. Expect mobile games, 3D graphics and virtual pets.

Nokia has launched its 3410 phone in the Middle East, a new breed of consumer device that supports Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME). Java technology is a significant open platform, designed to stimulate rich, interactive services. J2ME-enabled phones will allow users to download new applications such as games and virtual pets.

The Nokia 3410 introduces personalised, animated screensavers and comes with five embedded games: Space Impact, Bantumi, Snake II, Bumper and Link5, plus one preloaded and erasable Java game.

The new phone ships with a Picture Editor too, which allows you to create and share 3D graphics, as well as all the features present in Nokia’s ‘Expression’ category of phones, including Xpress-on Art Covers.

”In launching the Nokia 3410 we have brought advanced Java technology usually only found on business-class mobiles to the mass market,” said Eddie Maalouf, Nokia’s Middle East marketing manager.

“There are a great number of consumer applications for this technology and we expect that the unique services which the new phone supports will be extremely well-received across the region. The Nokia 3410 confirms our commitment to continually innovate and bring the latest mobile communications technologies to everyone.”

The J2ME platform of the Nokia 3410 is based on the industry standard Mobile Information Device Profile 1.0 (MIDP 1.0). The Nokia 3410 has 150KB memory reserved for downloading Java applications.
