EIM steps into the ASP space with eBayaNat agreement

Emirates Internet & Multimedia plans to offer document management and workflow services from its secure data centre infrastructure.

Emirates Internet & Multimedia (EIM) has made its initial step into the application service provider (ASP) space. Etisalat’s ISP business unit has teamed up with eBayaNat, a Dubai-based document & knowledge management vendor, to create a secure e-Community environment.

Under the terms of the deal EIM will host and serve eBayaNat’s eDoc and eProcess applications from its secure data centre infrastructure. eDoc offers companies online document management services and eProcess delivers workflow functionality that automatically distributes and tracks documents through the supply chain.

“In our business, security is not an option, it is a requirement,” says Mohammad Hejazi, president of eBayaNat.

“Working with Etisalat/EIM allows us to reassure our customers that their information is protected by the best security solutions in the region. Etisalat’s data centre will ensure security at the highest level, whilst EIM will is able to provide us with an effective presence on the Internet that our customers can rely on,” he adds.

The eBayaNat agreement marks EIM’s initial entrance into the much-hyped ASP space. Although the ASP model enables organisations to avoid high capital set up costs and speed to market, businesses in the region have historically given application service providing the cold shoulder.

EIM, however, is undeterred. “We estimate that by adopting the ASP model, companies will save between 40 and 60% in software costs,” says Maroua Naim, general manager, EIM.

“Because applications are rented on a standard monthly fee, users no longer have to invest in the initial cost of the hardware and software or the operational, maintenance or upgrade costs. This will allow for more accurate forecasting of IT budgets whilst minimising hidden costs.”
