Sony's latest twist on the PDA

Jazz musician Herbie Hancock joins forces with Sony to introduce the first PDAs to feature a rotating LCD, the CLIÉ PEG-NV70V and PEG-NV70.

Jazz pioneer Herbie Hancock took time out from his hectic schedule to unveil the latest CLIÉs from Sony: the PEG-NV70 and PEG-NV70V. The connection? According to Hancock, just like his music, the new PDAs reflect the perfect blend of art and technology.

Celebrity advocate aside, Sony should have no problem communicating to consumers the unique point of these CLIÉs: the fully rotatable LCD is an innovation that’s hard to miss. The idea here is to provide multiple forms to cater to the various multimedia tasks these tykes are built to bear.

Open these PDAs in a V-form to access the keyboard for computational use; rotate and fold onto the keyboard for scribbling and taking pictures — yes, there’s a built in camera here too, with a lens that rotates 300 degrees for multiple shooting angles; or close the lid, in the ‘shut down’ standard fashion, to enjoy MP3s without draining precious battery life.

Both the NV70V and the NV70 come with an integrated digital audio player, and are kitted with an in-line remote control and earbud headphones. Even smarter, with the Remote Commander application and the IR port, the CLIÉs themselves become universal remote controls for operating DVD, TV and other home entertainment kit.
