SADAFCO deploys Symbol handheld devices to automate its distribution network

Saudi's dairy king teams up with local Symbol partner, ACP, to deploy bilingual solution based on IAI's Palm OS.

Saudi Dairy And Foodstuff Company (SADAFCO) is leveraging on Symbol’s handheld devices to enhance the efficiency of its logistics and distribution operation.

Working with Symbol Technologies’ local business partner, Arabian Computer Projects (ACP), the dairy and food production company has deployed approximately 320 SPT 1800 handheld units and Symbol/O’Neil 8i printers.

“The objective is to expand SADAFCO across the region, making the Kingdom’s leading food brands household names across the Middle East. The new solution from ACP & Symbol will enable us to gain greater efficiencies getting our products to our distribution centres around the region, as well as providing accurate data to improve planning,” said Ted Roberts, IT manager with SADAFCO.

“[APC] has proven to be the right solution provider for SADAFCO for our brand distribution. We selected ACP because of its impressive track record in these types of implementations, and because of their long-term and extremely close partnership with Symbol Technologies,” he adds.

Core to the successful project has been the close integration of the APC-developed route accounting application and SADAFCO’s Oracle-based back end inventory and sales distribution apps.

ACP has designed the application on the Arabic Palm OS from US-based IAI enabling bilingual support.

“Depending on the user's requirements the application can support either English or Arabic,” says Hani Al Husseini, Country Data Capture manager at ACP.

“The solution we developed and implemented with SADAFCO helps them achieve immediate benefits to the bottom line by empowering staff where they need it most — in front of the customer. The company can also make smarter decisions based on better business information. They can monitor sales reps’ performance, different products’ sales performance and customer patterns,” he explains.

With the solution deployed throughout SADAFCO's 25 distribution centres in Saudi, the company is assessing the possibilities of extending the rollout to its other business interests in the region.
