Raytheon wins US$ 50 mill contract to upgrade Jordan's M60 tanks

Raytheon, the Massachusetts based company, has been awarded a contract to provide up to 100 Integrated Fire Control System (IFCS) upgrade kits to Jordan.

Raytheon, the Massachusetts based company, has been awarded a contract to provide up to 100 Integrated Fire Control System (IFCS) upgrade kits to Jordan. Under the basic award, valued at just under $50 million, Raytheon Technical Services Company (RTSC) will manufacture, deliver and install 50 upgrade kits for one battalion of Jordanian Arab Army M60A3 main battle tanks.

Raytheon will also provide pre-installation survey of end-user tanks, on-site installation support for the upgrade kits, instructor training and training maintenance manuals. Work will be performed primarily in Indianapolis. The option, if exercised, includes up to 50 additional kits for the upgrade of a second tank battalion. This event marks the culmination of a two-year joint development and integration effort between Raytheon and KADDB.

"The currently fielded M60 is a formidable asset, but like all weapon systems, it requires continual improvement to meet evolving threats. The KADDB -- Raytheon AB9B1 M60 upgrade offers a full solution in an affordable, proven installation," said Bryan Even, president of RTSC. "It significantly improves the combat life of the M60 indefinitely at a fraction of the cost of acquiring a new tank."

KADDB is an agency of the Jordanian government tasked with the design, development and transition to manufacture of prototype military equipment. KADDB operates as an independent governmental organization within the Jordan Armed Forces, with the steering committee reporting directly to His Majesty King Abdullah II.
