ADD continues its aggressive programme acquisition with the announcement that Urdu satellite channel ARY Digital is to join the platform as of March 27. The channel will be included within its pay-TV Asian bouquet Pehla.

UK-based ARY Digital is a 24-hour channel featuring news, film, sport, drama and sitcoms. It will also feature an Urdu version of the world’s most distributed gameshow, Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

Commented Salman Iqbal, CEO of ARY Digital: “We view Pehla as the ideal pay-TV platform for ARY Digital in the Middle East, with its solid and successful customer base spread across the region.”

In related news, ADD released the details of a research exercise trying to assess the region’s favourite sporting programmes amongst viewers. The report found that motor sports were rated third favourites, behind local and international football.

According to ADD, 90 per cent of those polled put motor sports, particularly Formula One, in the region’s top three sports. Coincidentally, ADD also confirmed that it will airing the Formula One season, which kicked off three weeks ago with the Australian Grand Prix, across its bouquet in 2002.
