University of Mansoura upgrades network to Gigabit Ethernet

University deploys Foundry's FastIron II enterprise switch to accelerate its campus local area network performance.

University of Mansoura has opted for a Gigabit Ethernet networking solution from Foundry Networks. The FastIron II Gigabit Ethernet backbone switch is being deployed as part of an upgrade to the campus’ ATM-based local area network.

“Foundry’s FastIron is being implemented [to upgrade] Mansoura University’s network from ATM to Gigabit technology,” says Dr. Mouneer Abdul-Razzak, director of communications & information technology centre, Mansoura University.

“Foundry’s technology has proved a very smooth transition from ATM to Gigabit. Network performance, manageability and durability seems to be an inherent features of [the] Gigabit backbone,” he adds.

The network at Mansoura supports various faculties including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, engineering, agriculture, commerce, law, science, education, nursing and IT.

The network also has to support different service units such as general management of student patronage, university hotels, hospitals and specialised medical centres.

“Winning important deals such as Mansoura University is confirming our commitment and strength in the market,” says Farook Majeed, regional director, Foundry Networks, MENA.

“We are continuing to grow our sales on a worldwide basis and want major growth in the Middle East, North Africa and Indian subcontinent by targeting and winning more enterprises and corporates through our expanding channel,” he adds.
