WD delivers world’s first 120 GB HDD to ME
Leading storage solutions provider Western Digital announced that its highest capacity desktop EIDE hard drive would be available in the Middle East.
Western Digital, a leading storage solutions provider, announced that its highest capacity desktop EIDE hard drive, which offers 120 gigabytes (GB) of digital storage, at a 7,200 RPM performance speed will be available in the Middle East. The new WD Caviar 120 GB hard drive provides storage for up to 2,000 digital photos, 5 hours of digital video, 45 hours of digital music, 22 games and 35 software programs.
"With the availability of data-rich applications on the Internet and the increased use of digital devices, demand on large storage capacity has dramatically increased in the Middle East," said Rauf Baig, Western Digital’s Regional Sales Manager with responsibility for the markets of the Middle East, Africa, and South West Asia.
“Accordingly, Western Digital has developed the high-capacity, high-performance Caviar 120 GB drive to provide users in the region with reliable storage for their need to store huge amounts of data, such as movies, live news broadcasts, HTML web pages, and large-size digital photos,” added Baig.
The launch of WD’s 120 GB drive marks the third consecutive first-to-market 7,200 RPM hard drive delivered by Western Digital, which was also the first to deliver 7,200 RPM hard drives in capacities of 80 and 100 GBs.
According to TrendFOCUS in its Q2 2001 Quarterly Update, Western Digital "has become the leading supplier" in the "expanding market" for 7,200 RPM hard drives. The company has seen a growing demand for higher EIDE-based storage solutions for the server units in the enterprise sector in the Middle East and the new Caviar 120 GB is especially designed to address this demand.
The new WD Caviar 7,200 RPM 120 GB drive is available in the Middle East markets through Western Digital’s long term partners, which are: Al-Yousuf Distribution, Servex (ME) Ltd., Tech Data, NAC, Nahil Computers, and Jamjoum Advanced Technologies.
