MMI doubles B2B business in three months

MMI’s online earnings from its three business-to-business (B2B) sites have broken the $2.5 million barrier.

MMI’s online earnings from its three business-to-business (B2B) sites has broken the $2.5 million barrier. E-commerce sales from mmigrocer.com, mihotelsandclubs.com and mmidiplomatic.com has more than doubled since August when the company broke the $1 million mark.

According to Mark Rogers, manager business communications, MMI, customers had been drawn online by the speed, efficiency, cost savings and convenience of trading through the Web.

MMI also announced several new customers had joined its online community since August including the Rotana Group, Ramee International, Regent Palace, Regal Plaza, Metropolitan Dubai and Bin Saloom Apartments.

Also various consular missions and embassies in Dubai had signed up including those of France, The Netherlands, Thailand and Norway.

“While MMI has always aimed to be a preferred supplier to our customers, e-commerce offers us the perfect channel for us to interact with them. Online, we are able to receive their enquiries, respond to them within three hours, and offer delivery within 24 hours. B2B has also eliminated some of the need for constant sales and service calls," explained Rogers.

Rajesh Narula, F&B Controller of Metropolitan Dubai, explained some of the advantages of using MMI’s online system. “Traditionally, while placing an order, we would have to send a fax, follow it up with a few telephone calls, wait for a response and only then ascertain whether or not our order was accepted and when it would be delivered. Being online with MMI simply means we can achieve all this in a couple of hours.”

Most other MMI customers have also reported savings on costs incurred on traditional forms of communication such as international/mobile calls and faxes, which are minimised or eliminated with e-commerce transactions.

MMI's B2B sites, mmigrocer.com, mmihotelsandclubs.com and the restricted-use website for diplomatic missions and consulates, mmidiplomatic.com are hosted on a dedicated server, provided by Innerhost.

The site also is based on an integrated web application designed in conjunction with Gulf Testing Factory Services (GTFS). The application is based on Microsoft’s SQL Server.
