MBC moves closer to DMC relocation
MBC [Middle East Broadcast Centre] moved a step closer to its move to the Dubai Media City this week with the completion of a large order for Sony Broadcast equipment.
The deal includes studio and control equipment, in addition to outside broadcast facilities, and will be installed to MBC’s purpose-built broadcast centre at the Dubai Media City [DMC]. The deal includes a Sony server-based news and transmission system, alongside Sony BVP cameras, DVS digital video switchers and MPEG IMX studio players.
MBC has also purchased a custom built 11-metre OB van, with eight permanent triax-based cameras and one microwave link camera.
Commented Hassan Ghoul, general manager sales at Sony Middle East: “We are very pleased to be chosen by MBC for their important move from London to Dubai. It is no surprise that MBC’s move to the Dubai Media City coincides with our own move into what is undoubtedly due to become the region’s media hub.”
Speculation has surrounded MBC’s move, something known publicly for many months, centring on apparent delays in completion. However, Sony asserts that the technical challenges of fully equipping such a facility are the reason for any delay. Moreover, MBC is aiming to make a seamless transition from London to Dubai, without a break in their transmission signal.
“We needed to move our operation from London to Dubai in a smooth manner without interrupting our programming, and at the same time upgrading our facilities to take advantage of the latest broadcast technologies,” explained Alfred Karam, vice president at AGI, MBC’s holding group.
