Star switches allegiance to ADD

As ADD embarks on a more aggressive campaign in the pay-TV market, the company announced in October that all Star select channels would switch from their current home on Orbit to the ADD platform on January 17th 2002.

As ADD embarks on a more aggressive campaign in the pay-TV market, the company announced in October that all Star select channels would switch from their current home on Orbit to the ADD platform on January 17th 2002. However, industry insiders expect the service to be available before the new year.

According to an announcement, Star Select will be made available as part of all ADD’s bouquets, will be available as a stand-alone subscription package and Star’s popular Asian channels will also be included in ADD’s Pehla bouquet.

The move also heralds an important link-up with the powerful Rupert Murdoch, owner of News Corp., and will also mean the inclusion of channels such as Sky News, CNBC Europe and other Fox channels.

The news is a significant blow to Orbit, whose future in the pay-TV market looks questionable, although the company has retaliated by rolling out its new box technology this month.

Said John Tydeman, CEO of ADD: “The migration of the STAR Select is an important strategic step for ADD and our philosophy”
