E-business to dominate Gitex

The Middle East is embracing the digital economy like never before as the move to e-government sweeps across the region. Local industry is matching governments step-for-step as the banking, retail and telecommunication sectors strive to become not just Gulf leaders but global examples of how technology enables core business.

It is against this backdrop that the Middle East's leading business, communication and information technology trade show, Gitex, will take place from October 14 through to 18. The exhibition is set to be dominated by the Internet and e-commerce and, whether it be hardware, software or channel partners, the message is clear: To succeed in today's digital economy everything must be web-enabled.

Each and every one of the IT industry's giants will be represented at the Dubai World Trade Centre organised Gitex 2001, and many of them intend to use the event to showcase their latest and greatest offerings.

The industry’s big boys will be ably supported, and in some cases eclipsed, by the region's local organisations as e-business lodges itself firmly in the region’s thinking. Without a doubt, Gitex will be the only place to be this autumn as the Arabisation of the digital world continues apace.
