Gitex dominated by localised software

According to the Dubai World Trade Centre, organisers of Gitex Dubai 2001, this year's show will see a dramatic increase in the number of Arabic language solutions on offer.

According to the Dubai World Trade Centre, organisers of Gitex Dubai 2001, this year's show will see a dramatic increase in the number of Arabic language solutions on offer.

"With the increase in Arabic speaking users, there exists a higher demand for Arabised software solutions," said Ibrahim Al Hashemi, corporate manager exhibitions, Dubai World Trade Centre. "We are noticing an ever increasing presence of Arabic software solutions at Gitex. The show has become an annual platform to launch new Arabic solutions for commercial and consumer use."

Among the numerous companies set to demonstrate their products at Gitex are Microsoft, Harf Information Technology and Alis Technologies.

Microsoft will use the show to ramp up interest in its Windows XP offering, due for launch on 25th October. In addition, the company will display its international portal, MSN Arabia, on stand.
Harf Information Technology will use Gitex to launch a selection of new titles and digital devices.

Among the Islamic Internet applications by Harf are the titles; Encyclopedia of Islamic Jurisprudence (version 2.0), Jurisprudence of Inheritance, Dreams Interpreter, Zakat for Companies, Kids Corner, Content Management System and Islamic Art Gallery. Harf's new selection of digital devices includes The Holy Qur'an Digital Book and The Holy Qur'an on LCD (Liquid Crystal Display).

The software collection also offers programmes on Jurisprudence of Transactions, The Islamic Dictionary, Al Bayan and the Stories of the Prophets series.

Alis Technologies is also expected to showcase its new multi-lingual IT solutions for the management of sales and distribution, inventory control, archiving and documents, signature verification and human resources.

The company will also introduce version 3.0 of Gist-in-Time, a language comprehension solution that allows the user to understand and communicate in a wide variety of languages suitable for use by both a web service or content provider.
