Etisalat to test next generation services
Etisalat, the United Arab Emirate's telephone monopoly, is planning field trials of a next-generation voice service for the end of the year.
Etisalat, the United Arab Emirates’ telephone monopoly, is preparing to conduct field trials of Alcatel’s next-generation Voice over ATM solution in Dubai. The test, which forms part of Etisalat’s ongoing next generation evaluation program, will start at the end of this year.
“The evolution towards Next Generation Networks will enable Etisalat to quickly introduce new services and to manage more efficiently the convergence of voice and data traffic in its network,” said Etisalat’s general manager Essa Mohammed Al Haddad. “This field trial will allow us to assess the range of benefits that Alcatel’s NGN platform offers.”
Based on Etisalat’s installed base of Alcatel 7470 Multiservice Platforms (MSP), the trial will be conducted in two phases. Alcatel’s VoATM solution will initially be tested with limited live traffic. If this is successful, Alcatel’s VoATM solution will be integrated into Etisalat’s live network, leading to the development of an NGN and suitable applications across the country.
“This trial is further proof that Alcatel is driving the next generation network revolution,” said Pierre-Alain Cadillon, Alcatel’s newly appointed country senior officer for the UAE and Oman. “Alcatel’s solutions will bring to Etisalat a future proof migration path, enhancing their circuit switched networks towards a multiservice packet-based network.”
