Spinneys brings in KPMG for SAP R/3 rollout

Spinneys is gearing up for a 200-user SAP R/3 implementation that will cover all areas of its business and prepare the organisation for e-commerce.

Spinneys is automating its business with a company-wide rollout of SAP R/3. The multimillion-dirham project will automate the company’s business practices and generate greater data visibility throughout the organisation.

The rollout, to be done in conjunction with KPMG, will also include deploying mysap.com portal technology.

“Realising the full benefit of SAP’s architecture lies in the hands of the user. By utilising Microsoft Windows compatible hardware in conjunction with mySAP.com, individuals can create their own reports which are geared towards their particular requirement,” says Chandrasekhar, lead communications manager with Spinneys.

KPMG consultants will develop the reporting formats, which will provide Spinneys' 200-users with the data they require to efficiently and cost-effectively operate the stores on a day-to-day basis.

Spinneys is also deploying SAP as a core element of its infrastructure for e-commerce and other web-based applications. The project aims to integrate marketplace transactions with the company’s business processes, consequently, reducing transaction costs and lowering the cost of sales.

SAP will also enhance the Spinneys' customer service capability. The system will deliver the ‘information that will enable the retailer to respond quickly to consumer trends and needs.’ Further information on Spinneys CRM strategy was limited.

Compaq will deliver the servers for the solution, and Cisco has been chosen to construct the network environment.

However, critical to delivering any project on time and on budget is the implementation team. The supermarket chain has already formed a 32-strong project committee that will over the rollout and ensure it delivers the desired business value.

“Each department is represented in the committee to ensure that the SAP requirements of the entire company are met. After-all, this is a team project whereby finance, retail, human resources, logistics, marketing and IT have to work together to deliver a system which will impact positively on the business,” said Richard Thorne, chairman of the SAP team and general manager of Spinneys Dubai.
