BMC Software is playing Robin Hood, and crediting its customers the costs of IBM’s DB2 utilities. Following the release of DB2 version 7, IBM decided to charge customers for utilities that were previously free, but BMC is assuring its customers it will not charge them.

“BMC is here to tell DB2 customers that they do not have to compromise,” said Calvin Guidry, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Server Management for BMC Software. “With BMC’s pricing model for DB2 solutions, customers don’t have to choose between the high availability and performance of BMC’s solutions and the base functions provided by IBM’s DB2 utilities.”

BMC is also touting the abilities of its solutions with their built-in intelligence, which automates management actions based on the status of DB2 databases and applications.
