Compaq chooses Cheetah
Compaq has announced that it will be using Seagate's Cheetah X15 36LP hard disc drive, the fastest drive available, in enterprise level hardware, to offer businesses superior transaction processing in applications
Seagate Technology and Compaq have announced a product pairing to provide e-businesses with the fastest transaction processing performance available for applications. Compaq is adopting Seagate’s Cheetah X15 36LP disc drive, the fastest disc drive in the world, for use in its ProLiant and Alpha servers, and its StorageWorks storage solutions.
“Compaq’s enterprise and e-business customers expect the ability to move data at increasingly faster levels while retaining high reliability,” said Jeff Jenkins, director of Server Storage and Infrastructure-Industry Standards Server Group, at Compaq. “Utilizing Compaq’s 15K Universal drive is a key enabling technology for achieving these goals.”
The Cheetah X15, running at 15,000 RPM is the fastest drive available today. The drive has been designed to handle high speed data retrieval, and boasts 3.6 msec seek times and transfer rates of up to 69 Mbytes/sec. The drive is available in Ultra 160 SCSI, Ultra320 SCSI and 2 Gbit Fibre Channel interfaces. It is backed up with a five year warranty.
“Compaq has been a strategic partner in developing the 15K RPM technology and was a pioneer in creating the market for 15K RPM disc drives,” said Brian Dexheimer, executive vice president, Global Sales and Marketing, at Seagate Technology. “Their role in this market has established them as the clear leader in volume shipments of 15K RPM drives that has ultimately enabled IT operations in companies worldwide to provide systems with faster response times and greater efficiently.”
