Only weeks after partnering with www.sheikhmohammed.co.ae to create an online education marketplace, Intershop has unveiled the next part of its Middle Eastern master plan. The e-business software provider has inked a deal with Atheer, the joint venture between Batelco (Bahrain Telecommunications Company) and the Jeraisy Group, in Saudi Arabia.
As part of the partnership, Intershop will provide Atheer with its technology platform as it aims to support the e-commerce initiatives of the Kingdom’s business community. Phase one of the deal will see Atheer create a hosting platform for e-business storefronts. Phase two will see the creation of a horizontal business-to-business marketplace in which, it is hoped, Saudi businesses will trade goods and services.
“Atheer brings together cumulative expertise from both the GCC’s telecommunications industry and Saudi Arabia’s trading community. With this background, our partnership with Intershop will enable Atheer to create viable and sustainable e-business models for the Kingdom, and eventually, for the rest of the Middle East,” says Rashid Al-Snan, executive director, Atheer.
“In a region where the concepts of e-business and online procurement are just taking hold, Atheer has the industry backing and trading expertise to ensure that enterprises in Saudi Arabia receive the real benefits of online business models,” adds Basel Tutunji, MENA sales director, Intershop.
As with the UAE education initiative, Intershop will not only supply its Efinity technology platform, but will also support Atheer in the implementation, integration, project management, and training stages of the project.
