SDI helps you if you’re lost

If you’re lost somewhere in the UAE or others can’t find you, then SDI-Spatial Data Integrators may have an online solution to the problem.

If you want to get somewhere in the UAE, but don’t know either where you’re going or how to get there, a solution can be found on the Internet.

SDI-Spatial Data Integrators has introduced an Internet-based location map service that shows the locations of registered companies, shops, events and other establishments. The interactive map sites are www.dubailocator.com and www.uaelocator.com.

The Web site lets you zoom in and out of the online maps, helping you to pinpoint a location exactly. Contact details for featured companies are also included.

The base maps have been compiled from aerial photos taken in November 1999 and from data collected through field surveys. SDI says that it updates the base map data on a regular basis. The maps themselves are quite bandwidth intensive, but performance is usually acceptable on a shared ISDN connection.

But what about the business model? For personal residents of Dubai, registration of their abode’s location is free of charge for the time being.

Companies can register at http://sdi.aeGRL.com for a charge of AED 100 per year flat fee, plus AED 100 per location registered. The site uses Comtrust’s payment & hosting services for payment by credit card.
