Portal service provider Naseej, is responsible for providing all technical services necessary to develop and manage the Health Gulf portal and its components by giving Health Gulf an advanced module based structure to run on.
“Health Gulf Portal has been constructed to provide a competitive, comprehensive service for the health needs of consumers and health professionals alike,” said Dr Al-Amro, deputy executive director of health outreach at King Faisal specialist hospital. “It will continue to improve and expand to ensure a one-stop shop for all the needs of consumers and health professionals in the region,” he added.
In its first phase, Health Gulf will provide a multitude of services to its visitors including virtual health communities where health care professionals will be able to interact with each other through chat rooms and discussion groups. Other services will include web-based email and forums. Health Gulf will also provide health information to the general public and will host specialised databases and directories, all covering health related news and information.
The second phase of the project plans to provide online continued education for health care professionals and will create a business-to-business infrastructure where hospitals and pharmaceutical companies will be able to commercially interact. Health Gulf will also attempt to transmit telemedicine applications reliably over the Internet.
