Improved training helps Acer grow

Acer Computers Middle East has posted a 54% rise in growth in the Gulf region for Q1 2001, which the company says is down to improved focus on markets and better training for channel partners

Acer is crediting improved training for its channel partners as one of the prime reasons for a huge surge in growth this year. The company reports a 54% rise in growth for the first quarter of 2001, and is attributing it in part to better technical training for resellers and distributors.

Acer introduced advanced technical training for partners, in the form of the Acer Certified Sales Professional (ACSP) and Acer Certified Sales Engineer (ACSE) programs.

“Acer initiatives in the Gulf will form a key component of our growth strategy for the upcoming quarters,” commented Dinesh Narayanan, Acer Computer Middle East regional manager for the Gulf region. “Based on our strong Q1 results, we are confident that by the end of year 2001, Acer will double its growth rates in the Gulf and Middle East region as a whole.”

A restructure to allow the company to be more responsive to customer’s needs and focusing on the SME sector and strategic vertical markets, such as ISPs and Education had also helped drive sales. Bundled solutions had proven very popular with SMEs, according to Eric Tien, managing director, Acer Computer Middle East.

“Our strong growth rates achieved in Q1 of year 2001 reflect Acer’s keen efforts to meet the needs of small and medium enterprises in the Gulf market,” he said. “Our market penetration in the ISP sector, including providing Acer PCs for Batelco’s Internet subscribers, has also given Acer a significant revenue boost in this quarter.”

Growth has been strongest in the mobile sector, with growth up 70% for Q1, with personal computing increasing 55%.
