Valuevad puts order tracking online

No cost savings expected from Valuevad's order tracking system, but it should add value and greater transparency to reseller customers in the Middle East.

Probably the most important tenet to come out of the US e-business bust, is that if it doesn’t add value to your business, then it doesn’t make sense to dot-com.

It was with this proviso in mind that Valuevad, a regional value added distributor of IT products based in Dubai, decided to launch an online order tracking service for its customers.

“We wanted a viable way for us to become an e-business, without getting out of adding value,” explained Lars Jeppesen, managing director.

“We talk to our resellers, and try to understand their business and needs, so we it would be very difficult to add value with an online ordering system, so we considered what motivates us when we are customers.”

What the company decided on, rather than an ordering system, was an online order tracking service. Valuevad could not choose between hardware vendors to deal with, but when it came to support services such as logistics support or web hosting, said Jeppesen, the company always chose those partners that offered additional information online, such as courier company TNT’s order tracking facility.

Valuevad did not want to alter the way in which resellers submitted orders, but an order tracking system would provide added value and greater transparency to the customers.
Jeppesen says that Valuevad does not expect to save money, as it is not actually cutting any activity from the order handling process, but it should help improve relations with resellers, especially those in more distant locations.
