Gitex Cairo attracts 50,000 visitors
This year's Gitex Cairo exhibition attracted 50,000 visitors with 40,000 visiting the Computer Shopper arm of the show providing direct sales of US$1.8 million.
Organisers of the third annual Gitex Cairo event said the exhibition attracted more than 10,000 trade visitors and professionals while its retail component, Gitex Cairo Computer Shopper attracted more than 40,000 visitors and witnessed direct sales worth US$1.8 million (7 million Egyptian pounds).
“Gitex Cairo 2001 was a major success, and already 60% of participating exhibitors have confirmed they’ll participate in the 2002 edition,” said Ibrahim Al Hashmi, the Dubai World Trade Centre’s corporate manager of Exhibitions.
A number of deals were signed during the exhibition including: Information Technology & Services (ITS) signed a contract with Egypt’s national postal authority to provide it with the latest electronic document imaging (EDI) system.
Nativenames, which made its debut in the Egyptian market at Gitex Cairo said that they finalised ten important deals with Egyptian ISPs, and Egyptian-based Yalla Online, reported that some 3000 new subscribers signed on to its portal during the exhibition.
