UAE Ministry of Information completes successful raid
The UAE's Ministry of Information has just successfully raided an unidentified reseller, confiscating 10 PCs loaded with unlicensed copies of popular software packages.
In the third such action since the beginning of the month, the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) Ministry of Information has raided a computer reseller and confiscated ten PCs, each loaded with unlicensed copies of Microsoft Windows 98 and Office 97, in addition to Symantec’s Norton Anti Virus software version 4.
The ministry has recently stepped up its enforcement efforts in copyright protection. A series of raids were conducted in Dubai and Sharjah in the past ten days with several computers being confiscated and warnings sent.
“Each new action by the ministry reassures us that the UAE is on the fast track towards eliminating illegal software from its market,” said Jawad Al Redha, the Business Software Alliance's regional director. “The Ministry of Information is showing exemplary determination in this regard.”
