Delegates from around the world will broach the digital divide at the 2nd Gulf E-Business International Conference, starting on Monday April 16.
GEBIC 2001, an event focused on discussing the growing digital divide, kicks off tomorrow (Monday the 16th) in Dubai. A number of distinguished delegates will speak at the four day event, which takes place at the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel.
Amongst the esteemed international speakers will Dr Othman Yeop Abdullah, who leads the Malaysia Multimedia SuperCorridor project and Vincenzo Schioppa, chairman of the G8 Dot Force.
Middle East speakers include Dr. Fawaz Hatim Zu’bi, Jordan’s minister of Post and Communications, who is a key man in the country’s drive to become a New Economy hub.
Other speakers include Engineer Raafat Radwan, chairman of the Egyptian Government’s Information and Decision Support Centre; Dr Ishkandar Baharin, president and chief executive officer of OIC Networks, Malaysia; Alex Czajkowski, marketing director, Armada Partners, USA; and Dr Ihsan Ali Bu-Hulaiga, professor of IT and Production, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.
The aim of the event is to identity the extent of the digital divide by market sector and geography and how it might be bridged. The conference has been organised by the Federation of GCC Chambers, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Gulf Organisation for Industrial Consulting.
"The presence of such international e-business leaders in Dubai at GEBIC is a clear indication of the importance and value this conference will offer visiting representatives from Governments and private sector organisations,” said Abdul Rahman G Al Mutaiwee, member of the GEBIC 2001 Organising Committee. "Their international perspective and expertise will prove invaluable in helping us working here in the Middle East to understand and grasp the challenges presented by the digital divide in a practical and effective manner."
