Organisers cancel Comdex Egypt 2001
Egypt will not see a Comdex exhibition this year. The show, which was due to take place at the end of May, has been postponed for a full year according to organiser, DIT.
Comdex Egypt 2001 has been cancelled. The exhibition and conference was due to take place at the end of May this year, but industry insiders say slow sales of exhibition space have caused the organiser, Dabbagh Information Technology Group (DIT) to skip this year’s show.
Comdex Egypt will be back in 2002, according to DIT, but it will be run under a new management structure. Key3Media Events, which owns the Comdex brand, will give DIT another year to make a success of Comdex Egypt, but IIR Exhibitions, which worked with DIT on this year’s exhibition, will not be involved in next year’s show.
US-based Key3Media and DIT will form a two-way partnership to run next year’s event, mirroring the management strategy of Comdex Saudi Arabia.
Far from undermining the Comdex brand in the Middle East, DIT’s chairman Amr Dabbagh suggests axing Egypt’s 2001 exhibition should be viewed in a wider context. “DIT is committed to making increased investments in the Comdex brand across the Middle East,” he promised in a statement accompanying the Comdex Egypt 2001 cancellation announcement.
