Compaq speeds up the laptop revolution

Compaq has unveiled its next generation of Presario Notebook computers, promising higher speeds and bigger memories than ever before.

The Middle Eastern laptop industry has taken another step forward with the launch of the fastest ever model to hit the market.

The Compaq Presario 1800 notebook boasts 128 MB of RAM, as well as a 20 GB hardrive, a size normally found in desktop computers.

“Mobile customers deserve to have the power and speed of desktop computing, and we are delivering on this with this announcement,” said Philip Ashkar, business unit manager for consumer products at Compaq Computer Middle East.

The new Presarios are based on Intel’s new mobile Pentium III 1 GHz processor, which the manufacturers say will boost speeds by more than 15 percent over existing portables.

Compaq is also preparing for the Middle East launch of its Armada E500 and M700 models, both aimed at the business market.

The E500 features, among other things, as massive 30GB hard drive, while the M700 is designed to be one of the lightest on the market, weighing in at just under five pounds.

“Both new Armada E500 and M700 models continue to simplfy the business computing experience by offering common docking solutions and the most robust common peripheral solutions in the industry,” said Hazem Baszan, business development manager for Compaq Computer Middle East’s commercial personal computing group.

The Armadas will be available in the region in April.
