GCC defence network receives technical boost

A $70 million telecommunications network was activated this week that ties together the armies of all Gulf Cooperation Council country armies.

A $70 million telecommunications network was activated this week that ties together the armies of all Gulf Cooperation Council country armies.

The Ericsson-based network, which has been under construction since 1998, was inaugurated at an airforce base in Qatar on Tuesday (February 27), according to the Qatari News Agency.

Full techical details of the telecommunications network were not disclosed for security reasons. It was described simply as a network that would allow armies to exchange telecommunications data and coordinate operations.
