Handspring reveals new products
Handspring has had a busy year. The new company has seen its Visor enjoy a period of rapid growth. Following on from the success of the Visor, Handspring are preparing to launch a new range of high-spec models.
Handspring, the makers of the popular Visor handset, is preparing to expand its range of products in the region. The Handspring Visor, which is already available in the Middle East, is the most versatile handheld PDA on the market.
The Visor is a PDA that can be infinitely expanded to offer a complete range of wireless functionality. Offering features ranging from MP3 to GPS and digital photography to the remote control of a television the Visor has been an instant hit with consumers.
Handspring is now ready to add another dimension to the device. Handspring has announced the release of a new PDA that offers a colour screen. The Prism is the first Handspring device to offer users a bright, 65,536 colour display.
This, it is hoped, will further encourage third party developers to create visually demanding modules for the unique ‘Springboard’ expansion slot.
The Handspring Prism can be seen as a general equivalent to the Palm IIIc. However, with a 16-bit screen, compared to an 8-bit screen on the comparable Palm machine, and the inclusion of a ‘Springport’ will persuade many to invest in the Handspring device.
The Prism is now available from the Handspring.com Website and is due to reach American stores in early November. The Prism is not yet in stores in this region, but is scheduled to arrive within the next few months.
Fortunately, for Middle East consumers, Handspring is planning to set up a Middle East office that will provide a greater coverage of the product in this region.
Handspring has also revealed a new high-speed handset that is designed for data-intensive applications. With a 33MHz Dragonball chip, the Visor Platinum is 50% faster than any other Handspring device.
This makes it a viable choice for executives wishing to transfer data or run applications that require the fastest possible processing speeds.
Most interesting of all is a new Springport module that has been designed by Handspring itself. In an exclusive showing of the device, ITP journalists were treated to a rare look at the product that could change the mobile telephony market in this region.
The Visorphone is an expansion module that brings GSM telephony to any Handspring device. The compact device utilizes the large Handspring screen to bring advanced ease of use to phone users. Representative of the next generation of mobile communications device, the Visorphone integrates telephony and mobile computing more than any other device.
