Batelco automates back end services with SAP
Batelco will be the first telecoms carrier in the Middle East to install SAP's R/3 ERP solution.
SAP Arabia and Batelco have announced the signing of an SAP R/3 system license for over 400 users. The state telecommunications carrier in Bahrain is the first teleco to roll-out SAP in the Middle East.
The project comes hot on the heals of Batelco’s announcement that it is upgrading its customer-facing software infrastructure.
From early next year, Batelco customers will be able to apply for e-mail accounts, Internet access and integrated messaging services via a single Web site. On top of that, an online bill payment solution is being developed that will also go live in 2001.
“We’re automating our relationship with the customers,” said Adel Daylami, senior manager, Informatics Services, for Batelco.
The SAP part of Batelco’s infrastructure upgrade will commence immediately, but a deadline for completion has not been announced.
On completion, Batelco will have the option of linking together SAP R/3 modules like Financials into customer-facing solutions like online bill payment.
