Acer and Microsoft support Emirates Internet drive

Emirates Internet Association is drawing on private sector support to open free Internet access clubs across the Northern Emirates.

Emirates Internet Association (EIA) is opening its first club at the American University of Dubai. The club, which will be equipped with Acer hardware and Microsoft software, will allow Association members to get free Internet access.

Details of how to join EIA are expected to be announced later this month. A source close to the initiative said that there would be a membership fee to the Association, but could not give details on what those fees will be.

Acer will be providing an Acer Altos server for the first EIA club, along with Aspire consumer PCs and thin clients. The commitment gives Acer a seat on the EIA board, which is planning several other clubs across the Northern Emirates as well as other Internet-related initiatives.

Microsoft is the key sponsor for EIA.
