Nokia is the first company to have one of it’s GSM phones certified as compliant with the new GSM Certification Forum (GCF) standards.

The Nokia 6210 passed the new voluntary certification.

The GCF was formed earlier this year as an independent, voluntary organisation that aims to introduce and monitor a global program of testing for GSM handsets which goes beyond the regulatory standards set by the Radio & Telecommunications Terminal Equipment Directive.

The certification is supported by 100 operators and the 14 largest GSM terminal manufacturers in the world.

The 6210 is Nokia’s latest dual-band GSM handset and features full WAP and HSCSD support.

Testing Assurance

Certification sets out clear steps for terminal manufacturers to follow for testing assurance. As well as assuring an even higher degree of interoperability, the forum process provides “one-stop verification” which can significantly shorten the product-to-market time for manufacturers.

The forum has created a new testing standard that provides greater confidence in terminal device functionality and interoperability which can give GSM customers a high degree of confidence.
